In loving memory of former Tropical Gaze Director

 Bill Chappelle

Celebrate the launch of the Tropical Gaze Art Exhibition, one of the largest exhibitions of LGBT+ art in Australia, this year bigger and better than ever. Featuring an eclectic mix of artworks, styles and mediums, the exhibition showcases both recognised and emerging artists.

The night accommodates the high brow... and the low.

Artists will present multi-media biographical vignettes and there'll be a drag show because honestly, when did you last see a drag show at a gala opening night in a leading gallery?

The night will offer the first opportunity to take in The Sealed Section, a retrospective display of HIV/AIDS art posters produced in Australia since the 1980's and gathered from archives and collections across the nation by our Event Director for this one off exhibition.

Slip 'n Slide takes place in Tank 4 of the magnificent Tanks Arts Centre, originally built during WWII to be camouflaged by the rainforest shroud of Mount Whitfield, and now a stand alone venue, and an integral component of the Heritage listed Cairns Botanic Gardens.

There'll be canapes and a cash bar.
